Credit Island
Sunday in the Park
Credit Island, also known as Suburban Island, Grand Island, Manhattan Island and Offerman's Island was a fur trading post between the Indians and local traders. So named as Indians were extended credit for supplies to get them through the trapping season until they could pay off their credit with furs in the spring. Part of the island was used as an Indian burial ground.

On September 6, 1814, during the War of 1812, Credit Island was a battle site for the only international conflict in Iowa. Blackhawk and his braves with British assistance defeated American troops under the command of Major ZacharyTaylor. Taylor later became the twelfth President of the United States in 1849.
